Bob Palmatier

About

Bob and a turtle buddy Bob Palmatier served as an elementary school teacher for 26 years, the last 10 as a school science specialist. During the past two decades, he has also been involved in the field research of native species of turtles, salamanders, beetles, giant silk moths, and their habitats.

During his early retirement, he authored and illustrated a number of children's story books focusing on endangered species of North American turtles. Paintings from the book illustrations appeared in solo shows at the Nature Gallery at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC, and in the De Berry Gallery of Botanical Illustration at the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, NC.

At present, he shares what he has learned painting in watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, and colored pencil while illustrating books in classes for kids aged 8-12 at the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, and with kids 7-16 in three art groups that meet at his home in Durham, NC.
